Blog Crushes

First and foremost, Happy Cinco de Drinko! I hope all of you were able to celebrate this drinking holiday with a margarita...or four.  Tis the season!

Day 5 of Jenni's challenge was to profess your love for your favorite blogger friends.  A little hard for someone on their third post who's sole audience consist of their little sisters.  However, the majority of my morning time at work is spent pursing several blogs and I figured I'd share my blog crushes. Women I'm convinced I'd be BFFs with in real life and share my love of food and drink.  The important things in life, obviously.

A Whale of a Friday

Remember when I said I was going to be diligent about my blog posts and then posted nothing yesterday? Yeah, #bloggerfail right there.

So I’m linking up today with Jenni to bring you Day 3 of "Blog Every Day in May" challenge, though in my case it looks like I’ll link up only on the odd days at this point. Today’s topic is things that make you uncomfortable, which include several things for me: mouth breathers, incorrect grammar (English nerd alert), man feet, cottage cheese, Keanu Reeves’ acting.  But I wanted to focus on the one major thing that makes me uncomfortable more than anything…

Whales.

And I don’t mean these cute, adorable, smiley guys.

But these terrifying creatures.

Ya’ll have no idea how the anxiety it gave me to even post the three pictures above! It’s weird and odd, I know.  Plenty of friends, family members and ex-boyfriends have made fun of me for this fear and even I can’t pinpoint exactly why whales bother me. It’s not like I’m swimming in the ocean daily with the chance to interact with something as big as a school bus looking at you with an eyeball the size of a bowling ball only get smothered by their dorsal fins or ginormous tails.   I totally blame this 90s childhood movie for my fear.

I’m not sure what was scarier, the orca or Michael Jackson’s clown face in the music video that aired before the film.

Explains why you see me bolting when I get too close to Shamu at Sea World for the penguins, despite their stinky lair.  Penguin stink > whales anyday.

Anywho, since it’s the best day of the week, I’ve also decided to link up with Whitney of I Wore Yoga Pants to Work for #backthatazzup Friday! This lady is one of the funniest people on the Internet and I can’t help but have a blogger crush on her. Seriously, I’d buy her Fireball shots using my “hey girl, did you know you can’t get pregnant in the summertime?” pick up line if we were ever so fortunate to meet.

Since I have to work tonight and tomorrow morning (lame!) at a event, here’s the jam getting me through the day.  It’s cleverly titled for my evening as well, I think.

Every Day in May Challenge

After spending a year reading too many fabulous blogs, I figured it was time to jump on the bandwagon myself.  With a push from my boyfriend and friends, my plan is to give you my thoughts, inspirations, ideas and more as often as my schedule allows. Plus I like the idea of documenting my memories of this 20-something conundrum we call life in my own corner of the interwebs.

One of my favorite bloggers, Jenni at Story of My Life (seriously, is there a prettier blog?) is hosting a link up for the month of May that I thought would be the perfect springboard for me to jump into the blogging world.  She is challenging bloggers to blog every day for the month of May.  I like a good challenge as much as the next girl, so let's do this!

Day 1: The story of your life in 250 words or less...

Me with my handsome daddy, circa 1989

I was born on January 15, 1988 in Chicago, IL to my loving parents who have been married for almost 30 years.  I’m the oldest of three girls and my younger sisters are my favorite people on this planet.  Fluctuating job markets and new opportunities for my dad took us all over the USA: we moved from the North Shore of Chicago when I was seven to the San Francisco Bay Area and then moved to Houston, TX when I was fourteen.  Moving allowed me to learn to embrace change at a young age and become even closer to my family, though it’s always hard for me to describe my “roots” or “hometown” to others.  I went off to college at Trinity University in San Antonio, four wonderful years of college where I studied, partied and grew to the fullest.  I graduated in 2010 with a liberal arts degree in English and Communication, entering the real world with no clue as to what kind of career I wanted to pursue and a crappy economy to boot.  After moving back to Houston and temping for awhile, I’ve started a career in arts administration in Houston’s museum district.  I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up and that’s okay, I have time to figure it out. I have the most amazing best friends, a strong, rugged, goofy guy I’m lucky to be with, and my wonderful family supporting me through life’s journey.  I am blessed beyond measure.

P.S. This blog is hideous looking right now, which is driving me crazy! A prettier layout will be coming ASAP, pinky swear.
